OnNovember5,2007,aftertheepisodehostedbyBrianWilliams,theWritersGuildofAmericawentonstrike.ItwasannouncedthatSNLwouldairitsnextepisodeonNovember10,2007(withhostTheRockandmusicalguestAmyWinehouse),liveonair,withafutureepisodetofollow,featuringJonahHillandmusicalguestKidRock.However,onNovember7,2007,SNL'sofficialwebsiteconfirmedthatthoseepisodeswerecanceledandrerunswouldbeseenbeginningNovember10,andwouldcontinueduringthedurationofthestrike.TheRock/Winehouseshowwascanceled,alongwiththeJonahHill/KidRockepisode(thoughJonahHillwouldgetasecondopportunity,whenhehostedtheMarch15episode,withmusicalguestMariahCarey[fillinginforaflu-strickenJanetJackson]andTheRockwouldhostnextseason,withmusicalguestRayLaMontagne.AmyWinehousewouldnevergetthechancetobeamusicalguest,host,orevencameoduetoherdeathin2011). DuringthestrikeonNovember17,2007,thecastoftheshow,alongwithhostMichaelCeraandmusicalguestYoLaTengoperformedan"episode"oftheshowentitledSaturdayNightLive-OnStrike!attheUprightCitizensBrigadeTheatre(co-foundedbycastmemberAmyPoehler)inNewYorkCity.EverycastmemberexceptforMayaRudolphappeared,withformercastmembersHoratioSanzandRachelDratchandmusicianNorahJonesmakingcameoappearances.[1] OnFebruary12,2008,thestrikewasannouncedtobeofficiallyoverwitha92.5%vote.ProductioncontinuedonFebruary18,2008fortheFebruary23,2008episode,hostedbyformerSNLcastmemberTinaFeywithmusicalguestCarrieUnderwood. Thisseasonalsosawthedeathoftheshow'sveryfirsthost:edian/actorGeorgeCarlin.AscheduledrerunoftheepisodehostedbyEllenPagewasreplacedwitharerunoftheshow'sveryfirstepisode,whichhadCarlinashostandJanisIanandBillyPrestonasmusicalguests.
